Terra Verde celebrated its 8th anniversary with two special Aperitivi Siciliani
On May 17th and 18th, 2024, two different Sicilian Aperitifs at Terra Verde’s venues in Berlin will shine a spotlight on some of the most characteristic Sicilian products, including Catarratto, wine from the oldest Sicilian vine (whose origins date back to the era of Magna Graecia).
The first Terra Verde, a small bistro and specialty Sicilian shop, was founded in Berlin in 2016. The events on May 17th and 18th will celebrate the 8th anniversary of Nicolò Saracino’s activities, but not only that. This will also be the first in a series of activities that the Sicilian agency Made in Sicily of Giovanni Callea and Davide Morici has planned to implement in Berlin, and more generally in Germany, in the coming years.
On May 17th, at Terra Verde on Grunewaldstraße 78, there will be a Sicilian aperitif at the symbolic price of €15 with sfincione, bruschetta with Sicilian pesto, focaccia with Sicilian mortadella, typical cold cuts, and cheeses accompanied by a wine tasting, including Catarratto from Di Bella Vini, a wine which is 100% macerated without preservatives and without added sulfites. On-site to present and explain the wines will be Sebastiano Di Bella, owner of the eponymous organic winery with vineyards in the Upper Valley of the Jato, a few kilometers from the southern tip of Sicily, where the Greeks arrived as early as the 8th century BC.
Moreover, Salvatore Bilello, silver medalist at the iMEAT 2023 meat fair thanks to the creation of a unique mortadella in the world, made with mountain fennel, and the Italo-Brazilian chef Thiago Valente, with experiences in various starred restaurants, will be present. Thiago Valente is a standard-bearer of an Italian cuisine ready to welcome European influences from Portugal to France. The event will be accompanied by live music by Orazio di Gaudio with a lounge repertoire dedicated to Italy.
On the 18th, at Terra Verde on Rheinstraße 18, the Sicilian aperitif will have a similar menu (only sfincione is missing) and the price will be €10. Once again, Sebastiano Di Bella, Salvatore Bilello, and Thiago Valente will be present, while the live music will have a more Sicilian focus thanks to Luca Burgio and Maison Pigalle.
Sicilian Week Berlin, March 27th – April 2nd, 2025
The two Terra Verde events will also be the occasion to launch the first edition of Sicilian Week Berlin. The event, born in collaboration with True Italian, will invite Berliners for a week to try more than 20 typical Sicilian restaurants with as many different fixed-price menus at €18 made with products from about twenty different Sicilian companies.
