Ten regional specialties to try during the 72hrs True Italian Food Festival

The week was busy and you couldn’t plan the to-do list for this weekend? We are here to simplify your life and find the right opportunities that fit you!

This is the You have only 72 hours to enjoy portions of regional Italian specialities designed exclusively on this occasion and with a glass of Aperol Spritz, wine or beer for just 8€. The selection is wide: among 41 restaurants scattered around the city of Berlin.

Here is a proposal of a gastronomic path among the 10 most particular specialities to try between Friday 6 and Saturday 9 April:

Capvin: two montarine with Mortadella di Bologna, ricotta and pistachios

“Montanara”: certainly, an unusual name to be a speciality of a seaside town like Napoli, yet its origin is located right there. The “Montanari (mountaineers)”, farmers from the mountains, during the lunch break, were used to consume sandwiches stuffed with tomato, basil and cheese. The world champion and revolutionary Vincenzo Capuano (Capvin) will be happy to offer you his specialities together with an Aperol Spritz.

Olive ascolane as the queen of buffet and aperitivi

Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside: Ascolane olives. The origins of this regional Marche food are to be found in ancient Rome: legionaries crossed the Salaria Road, adorned with numerous olive groves, to reach the Adriatic Sea. On the days of wind and rain, the olives fell from the trees into the salt tanks (also full of water). They realized that this natural brine could give life to an excellent conservation system. Spaccanapoli Nr.12 offers them together with fried zucchini flowers filled with ricotta and provola, and a good Spritz.

Cuore di vetro: Tigelle and Focaccia with home-made sauces and Sardinian pizza

Cuore di Vetro is a must-try and the reason is soon said: an articulated selection of Emilian tigelle together with Tuscan focaccia, accompanied by sauces strictly homemade and followed by a single serving of pizza combined with a glass of Aperol Spritz.

Cargo Gastronomia: Frisella with confit tomatoes, garlic oil, basil and rocket

Like many Italian specialities, Frisella was born in Puglia as a poor product that fed sailors on the road, to become now also a gourmet bite to enjoy as a delicious snack. Cargo Gastonomia offers a Spritz Aperol served with an unmissable Frisella with confit tomatoes, garlic oil, basil and rocket.

Cicala: Palermitane sfincione and arancina

The classic of all classics of Palermo and Sicily’s cuisine is undoubtedly prepared by Cicala in Kreuzberg: combined with a glass of Crodino, it is offered the desirable duo Palermitane Sfincione (Sicilian fluffy pizza) + Arancina.

Terra: sourdough bread and …

Watchword: Calabria! Terra, a place that uses the best ingredients, many of which come directly from the Italian land, offers a set of options: sourdough bread with a selection of cold cuts from Plataci, or with Sila baked cheese (vegetarian) or with Tropea onion mousse (vegan). All are served with a glass of wine to be tasted with friends and family.

Enoteca l’Angolino: from Venice to Berlin

Legend has it that the recipe for “sarde in saor” (sweet and sour sardines) was born from the need of Venetian sailors to store fish during long sea crossings. Due to the absence of a cooler, onions and vinegar allow the fish to remain edible (and even tasty) for days. Enoteca l’Angolino offers as a speciality this dish, the most representative of the centuries-old culinary tradition of Venice, accompanied by a good glass of Aperol Spritz.

Vinoteca Berlin: a Canederlo from Südtirol

To better enjoy the experience of South Tyrolean food, Canederli, despite being a traditional dish with simple and poor roots, represent the excellence of Südtirol for all tastes! Vinoteca Berlin in Charlottenburg allows you to choose one of the large gnocco made of stale white or dark bread with flavourings combined with a glass of Aperol Spritz, to teleport you immediately into the atmosphere of Trentino.

The Antica Pizzeria da Michele: eggplants with tomatoes and focaccia

Melanzane “a funghetto”, so-called for the way eggplants are cut, diced, reminiscent of small mushrooms, are a delicacy typical of Neapolitan cuisine. The Antica Pizzeria da Michele in Berlin offers them accompanied by a focaccia and a nice Aperol Spritz.

Prometeo: mashed fava beans with sweet green peppers

And the news does not end here! Recognized by the association True Neapolitan Pizza, Prometeo shows off as his speciality a dish that demonstrates their wisdom in the kitchen goes beyond their pizza: a bed of mashed beans with friggitelli, more commonly known as green peppers or puparuoli in Campania dialect, along with a glass of Aperol Spritz.
